In 2024, the Illinois Flag Commission held a public contest to redesign the flag, and December, selected 10 finalists. In 2025, Illinois residents were able to vote for their favorite design, opt to keep the current flag, or cast their vote for either the 1918 Centennial Flag or the 1968 Sesquicentennial Flag.
