I usually talk about pirates on this channel, but in this video we will talk about their worst nightmare: Governor Woodes Rogers. In 1718, he was appointed Governor of the Bahamas, and became responsible for ending Nassau as a pirate base. Many credit him as the man who ended piracy in the Caribbean. However, Rogers early life is often neglected. The reason he was so good at fighting pirates, is because he had essentially been one himself! During Queen Anne's War, he had led a privateering ship to victory against a Spanish treasure galleon in the south sea. He sailed with buccaneers the likes of William Dampier, and circumnavigated the globe. His whole life was an epic adventure worth retelling. This is the story, of Captain Woodes Rogers.
