
Fyfe Robertson considers whether modern town planners' obsession with accommodating motorists might inadvertently lead to the death of the bustling city centre as we know it. He examines Birmingham in particular, where the impressively futuristic-looking Bull Ring Centre now occupies a large site in the city, but where it seems like the pedestrian - relegated to subways and tunnels - is very playing second fiddle to the motorcar.
