That's a wrap...for now! After 8 months in Argentina, it's time to head back to Canada for a little bit and in this video, we begin the task of locking up the house. Truthfully, we thought we'd be a lot further with this renovation. In fact, we thought we'd already be moved it! However, if there's one thing we've learned over the past couple of months, it's that renovations always take longer than expected, there are bound to be a few surprises along the way, and you just have to adapt and go with the flow.

Considering we had zero construction experience, I'm quite impressed with how much we managed to accomplish. Overseeing crews, delegating tasks, problem-solving and making decisions on a dime is pretty tiring work...and I think it shows on our faces!

So we're heading back to Canada for a little bit (this was always part of the plan!) to recharge, refresh and enjoy some quality time with family.

It's goodbye for now, but we'll be back in Argentina soon enough!

🔨 Chalet & Hotel Lock-Up: Final Week of Renovations!

Join us as we race against the clock on our last week at the chalet and hotel property in rural Argentina. Here’s everything that happens (in order!) in today’s video:

Morning Chiseling – Dad’s up early chiseling walls as we gear up for the week’s lock-up tasks.

Closing the Chalet – We begin “closing up shop” with just a week left before flying home.

Doors & Windows Reinstalled – All exterior doors, windows and wooden shutters go back on after months of work.

Cutting Door Heights – Floors got raised; we slice the bottoms off each door so they fit—tall folks beware!

Sliding Patio Doors – Carpenter arrives (any minute between 12–2 pm) to install custom cedar-and-acacia sliding doors.

Tile Relocation – Moving dozens of loose floor tiles back inside the chalet, securing them for return.

“Fort Knox” Secure Lock-Up – Every door, shutter and window locked tight—no more open-air house!

Cowboy Hat Nostalgia – Dad unearths his 1850s “Wind River” felt cowboy hat from a family trip to Nevada.

Rosario Mural Discovery – We stumble on a hidden “Rosario es La Familia” mural and soak in the family history.

Measuring for Ceiling Beams – Back at the hotel, we measure room lengths—planning to reuse fallen acacia logs as cozy ceiling beams.

Bernie “Supervisor” Sighting – Our energetic dog follows us to work, ensuring no corner is left unchecked.

Hotel Suite Inspection – A quick walk-through uncovers missing toilets, bidets and humidity damage in multiple rooms.

Tracing Water Infiltration – Climbing onto the roof to identify leaks above guest rooms—time for our anti-rising-damp treatment!

Drone Fly-Over Recap – Aerial footage reveals just how much landscaping and clearing we’ve achieved in eight months.

Reflecting on Progress – We chat about tackling the toughest jobs first (roof, gut renovation) and building momentum.

Hair-Length Milestone – Dad notes his “renovation barometer” of flowing locks… soon fit for the Rockies!

Road-Trip Recollections – Reminiscing about 1960s station‐wagon trips to California and Bonanza-inspired cowboy hats.

Last-Minute Packing – Shoveling off final tools, paintings and leftover materials before tomorrow’s bus to Buenos Aires.

Bus Bed Setup – Quick peek at our comfy 11-hour bus “beds” for the overnight journey south.

Farewell “Fort Knox” Chalet – Locked, sealed and ready for our months-long break—mission accomplished (almost)!
