This is probably one of the most dangerous events that can occur in a steel mill. It occurs when molten steel, nearly a thousand degrees hot, shoots out of the production line. Sometimes, the force is so great that steel bars fly off the roof for tens of feet. In the steel industry, this phenomenon is known as cobbles or missrolls. It is caused by a jammed production roller, which makes superheated steel pile up and throw hot steel ropes into the air.
