When the Europeans first set foot on the continent and the Transatlantic slave trade began, records showed that a lot of African kings and traditional rulers were involved in the trade in exchange for mirrors and guns. The colonial period was no different. Of course, by this time, Europe had already taken over the continent, but the fact is they were able to do so because they had help from Africans, who helped them enforce their rules and ideologies. What about the post-colonial period? The situation was even worse. African leaders and those in power gladly implemented and enforced the interests of the West in exchange for power and wealth, not regarding the state of the people. And, today, the situation is the same.
Recently, Captain Traore of Burkina Faso, levied serious allegations against neighboring African countries, Ivory Coast and Benin, of collaborating with France to cause economic and security destabilization in Burkina Faso. But what does Traore mean by economic destabilization? Well, according to Traore, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso are blocking goods en route to Burkina Faso at their ports. This is very serious because Burkina Faso is a landlocked nation meaning it is surrounded entirely by land and doesn't have direct access to the sea. So, imagine essential items including food and drugs coming from Ivory Coast and Benin, countries that are supposed to be neighbors, but these countries are stopping the goods from going to Burkina Faso. The first question is why?
