Linkin Park is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Originally founded in 1996 as Xero by friends Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon and Mike Shinoda, Joseph Hahn, Dave Farrell and Chester Bennington later joined the line-up. Linkin Park broke through in 2000 with the debut album Hybrid Theory, which received diamond status in the United States and was multiplatinum in several other countries. The band was successful with the songs "In the End", "Numb", "Faint" and "What I've Done" and has sold more than sixty million albums worldwide and won two Grammys since its inception. With the second studio album Meteora, the band continued the mainstream nu metal/rap rock sound that made them famous on Hybrid Theory. On the 2007 release of Minutes to Midnight, the band largely abandoned nu metal and moved towards alternative rock, with an emphasis on experimenting with other musical styles. The electronic rock baptized A Thousand Suns was released in September 2010. On June 22, 2012, the fifth studio album Living Things was released, which merged the previous albums with the aim of creating a new sound. In the summer of 2014 the sixth studio album was released: The Hunting Party. Three years later, in 2017, their seventh album One More Light followed, in which they radically changed their style and went more in the direction of pop. On July 20, 2017, singer Chester Bennington committed suicide
