Health anxiety, formerly known as hypochondria or hypochondriasis, and more recently known as illness anxiety disorder, is when someone experiences obsessive and irrational fears about having a serious health problem. These fears can sometimes lead to panic attacks as well. People with health anxiety often believe that they have an illness when they don't. They also commonly interpret minor bodily sensations, or benign physical symptoms as signs of something much more serious.

Unfortunately, some of the things people do to try to ease their anxiety can actually make it worse, creating a cycle of health anxiety. This cycle encompasses actions like frequently scrutinising your body for signs of illness, or seeking constant reassurance from others, or medical professionals. Despite a lack of concrete evidence of any health issues, people still feel compelled to monitor their health. In this video, I will delve further into all of these topics.
