10 most expensive dogs in the world

Dogs, since time immemorial, have been known to be man’s best friend. Some people are even willing to pay thousands of dollars for certain dog breeds they’re fascinated by. We all know that dogs can be pretty expensive to own when you factor in the costs of food, care, toys, vet bills, dog beds and so on, but if if you want a dog based on the breeder, location, and bloodlines, you can be rest assured that wherever you are in the world, these pups will cost an arm and a leg! So what are the most expensive dogs around? Stick around to find out as we feature the 10 most expensive dogs in the world!

10.Afghan Hound

If Rapunzel was a dog, she would probably be an Afghan Hound. Easily distinguishable by its ring curl tail and thick silky smooth hair, the Afghan Hound is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful dogs and was bred for its unique features in the mountains of Afghanistan. Believe it or not, these dogs even require daily hair brushing because their long silky coats become tangled very easily. They’re 64 to 69 centimeters tall and usually weigh in around 23 to 27 kilograms. These dogs have an average life of 10-14 years and are available in Fawn, Gold, or Cream with a black facial mask. It's uniqueness and individuality are probably enough to justify its $6500 going up price tag!

9.Saluki

The Royal Dog of Egypt, also known as Saluki has been a good friend to humankind and their beauty has been a thing of wonder since the time of the Pharaohs. The Saluki is a dog breed originating in the Fertile Crescent. They were mostly reared for herding by nomadic tribes to run down game animals. They’re slim and long-legged, but very strong and perfectly balanced, like a great athlete or dancer. Males can weigh up to 60 pounds and can reach up to 28 inches while females can be much shorter. Salukis are known to be intelligent, reserved, and quiet making them highly adaptable, able to live and work in any climate. They come in many colors like white, fawn, tan, cream, gold, and Red. They’re breathtaking animals, but owning them comes with many special challenges. The price can reach around $2500 when a puppy and almost $7000 if it's all grown!!!

8.Pharaoh Hound

Talk of judging a book by its cover, these sleek and majestic sighthounds may look like they walked out of King Tut’s tomb, but their true origin may surprise you. The Pharaoh Hound is a breed of dog and the national hound of Malta. Its native name is Kelb tal-Fenek in Maltese, which means “Rabbit dog” and like its name, Pharaoh Hound is traditionally used for hunting rabbits in the Maltese Islands. The Pharaoh Hounds tend to weigh up to 45-55 pounds, depending on the sex of the dog and it’s eating habits. Males usually are 23-25″ tall, while females are 21-24″.

Pharaoh Hound has a very royal look, high intelligence, and athletic disposition. They might be the only dog breed that has no dark pigment in their skin and when excited, show a flush in their ears and nose. How cute! The breed has an average life span of 11-14 years but is extremely sensitive to stress. You wouldn't believe it but the stress can lead to severe digestive and neurotic issues which can cost more than $2000 to treat!! Other than that, they’re loyal and can be trained well, making them another great addition to the family, if you can afford it!

7.Canadian Eskimo Dog

The Canadian Eskimo Dog is one of the oldest and rarest working dogs from the Arctic. The dog dates back as far as 4,000 years ago to the Inuit or Eskimo people. These dogs were bred for pulling sleds and helping the Inuits hunt. The breed is currently threatened with extinction, with an estimate of only 300 purebred dogs left. Now we have a hint on why they command such a large price for this breed. The Canadian Eskimo Dog's personality reflects its original work and environment. It’s loyal, tough, brave, intelligent, and alert.

They require more exercise than many dog owners can give and thus aren’t usually recommended for apartments, however, they can live in apartments if well trained and properly exercised. Because of their heavy coats, these dogs like cool climates often preferring to sleep outside in winter. The average life cycle of these dogs is from 10 to 15 years and the cost of each puppy will cost from $2000 without the food and health expenses.

As much as I would love to own one of the most outstanding dogs, with prices like these, it looks like I'll be sticking with adopting puppies. I mean, giving a homeless pup a new home is just as rewarding. What do you think?
