Born July 17, 1949, Geezer Butler turns 76 today! As the founding bassist and lyricist of Black Sabbath, Geezer helped create the very sound and soul of heavy metal. His deep, distorted bass lines, dark lyrical themes, and trailblazing use of wah and drop-tuning laid the foundation for generations of metal bands.
With Sabbath classics like “War Pigs,” “Paranoid,” “Iron Man,” and “N.I.B.”, Geezer’s playing wasn’t just background—it was thunderous, poetic power. He later joined Heaven & Hell with Dio, launched solo projects like Plastic Planet, and in 2023, released his explosive autobiography Into the Void.
From arena stages to the pages of metal history, Geezer’s influence is immortal.
