Orygen Executive Director Professor Pat McGorry has called for Australians to “wake up” to the government’s neglect of mental health.

Mr McGorry said the Australian public is getting a “raw deal” from governments on mental health.

Psychiatrists are considering leaving the New South Wales public hospital system as a result of long shifts, growing patient demand and poor pay.

The threat of a mass exodus means a number of hospital wards across Sydney are at risk of closing.
