Summer may be over, but the summer vibes never end in Largo's world. We've got breakdancing, roller skating, disco balls, sun soaked beaches, boomboxes, fly girls, and heavy VHS aesthetics oozing out of this music video for the 2009 track "Jupiter". With a crisp, snappy snare, wavy synth stabs, and a smooth, ultra-funky lead synth, this track will have you poppin', lockin', bouncin', rockin', skatin', and rollin'.
The Largo project blends west coast hip-hop roots with an 80s retro analog approach to create a sound that evokes nostalgia for a futuristic past that never really happened. Characterized by old school drum machine beats and funkified synth basslines paired with spacey synths and face-scrunching melodies, Largo's brand of electro funk provides the perfect soundtrack for hazy summer days and hot autumn nights.
Growing up in Los Angeles, CA, the soundtrack of my formative years was defined by the sounds that bumped out of passing cars in neighborhoods all across the city. The minimal 808 slap of an NWA classic, the whiney mini-Moog leads of The Chronic, and the iconic synth claps and talkbox vocals of the legendary Roger Troutman & Zapp (maybe the #1 sample source of 90s-era west coast hip-hop). With Largo, I pay homage to those inspirations and to the LA of my childhood, a time that wasn't without its glaring and obvious flaws, but was no less influential and inspirational for them.
