Two little boys were bothering her. One threw her only pen into the river and that was her only pen. One even slapped her in the face but she never fought back. The woman scolded the boys and went to get her another pen from her home.
After sharing her story online, concerned citizens began to donate to help out the girl. It's clear that her family is poor. Her grandmother however, wasn't too happy about the help they were receiving. When they came back to visit the girl again, the grandmother tried to prevent them from coming inside again.
The girl excitedly show them her father. Her parents both work in the city. So is her 18 year old sister but they couldn't bring her along since their hours are irregular so she has to stay behind. The grandmother only has one arm because when she was a child her hand fell inside a boiling pot. They were too poor to get her any treatment so she ended up losing her hand.
The grandmother is unable to help the girl shower so she has to wait until either parent come home to do so about once a week. Which also mean she smells. It's unknown why they don't let the girl shower on her own but it's probably because their bathroom is very oddly designed and quite dirty. They might have worried she would fall and hit her head.
Her father is much more open to receive help. He knows that story of her daughter has been shared online because her teachers have dropped by to visit her as well. He's fine with it and when asked what clothes the child could be changed into, he only pull out dirty old sweaters when it was entering summer time. So of course he knows that they needed help.
The grandmother kept asking them to leave because she didn't think that they could ever pay the woman and her grandmother back. But the woman reassured the grandmother that everything has been donated and there was nothing they need to pay back.
The grandmother said that the girl only gets 2% on her grade when some kids get 100% and doesn't think the girl could even study well and show she appreciates the help. So they offered to help tutor her for free. She's only in grade 2 and certainly shouldn't give up too soon.
At the end the grandmother finally smiled and even asked the woman to invite her to her wedding when she gets married someday. In the village this was their way of saying thanks, by attending one's wedding. Of course the woman said yes.
