working on a 45 minute live set. looking to go beyond DJing tracks (which is pretty much all i've ever done in the past when performing, aside from a few oddball IDM jams)... so i've been practicing performance skills. at this point, it's really just been arranging songs on the fly using ableton's session view or a couple different performance-related reason rack extensions.
it took awhile to get to a point where i thought they were ok (LOTS of volume adjustment / gain staging trial and error ugh). once i was there, i recorded the performance and threw it into ozone.
First track was created in Reason 12 using "DirectRE" and "Sequences" rack extensions, which are actually pretty great for a simple performance setup. Dr Rex also has an easy way trigger loops in time. Obviously not as advanced as Ableton, but when you combine it with some midi controllers (in my case, a launchpad and a faderfox)... you can get there for sure. Here are samples/midi from the track:
night clouds was created in ableton's session view... not much else needs to be said about that lol. session view is the best, not sure if there's anything better than ableton for a live performance with a DAW.
*** some of the field recordings for both tracks were added in post***
essentially, these were created with just some chilled drum loops and breaks i rendered on the polyend tracker, a handful of samples, reason rack plugin, uhe hive/zebra2, and the nord modular g2. aside from valhalla supermassive/vintageverb, all fx/dynamics are just stock ableton or reason.
