The University of Hawai‘i softball team is headed to the first-ever Big West Softball Championship, which begins Wednesday, May 7, at Anderson Family Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.

The Rainbow Wahine (31-18, 17-10 Big West) earned the No. 5 seed in the inaugural tournament and will open play against fourth-seeded Long Beach State at 1 p.m. HT. The four-day, double-elimination event will award its champion an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

Hawai‘i is led by senior catcher Izabella Martinez, who tops the team with a .348 batting average and a .463 on-base percentage. The Wahine have made a habit of rallying late this season, notching 14 comeback wins, thanks in large part to a defense that leads the conference with a .976 fielding percentage.
