Why do bowlers spin the ball instead of throwing it straight down the middle? As it turns out, a straight throw actually decreases the likelihood of a strike. The ball only hits the center pin, leaving the rest in a difficult-to-drop position. With the twisting technique, however, the ball's trajectory is curved, allowing it to enter from a certain angle. This angle creates a more effective chain reaction, increasing the chance of a strike to more than 90 percent.
