First things first, we visited a Welsh tea house, because hello, we love food! Thankfully this place does serve afternoon tea in the middle of the morning, so that worked out well.
We then walked along the Percy River, walked around the town where the streets are lined with rose bushes, and we also visited the Andean Mill Museum, which showcases objects that were part of daily life for the Welsh settlers of Patagonia. You’ll see furniture, home decorations, musical instruments, clothes, random household items, and even farming equipment.
We then grabbed a late lunch at Los Troncos, which specializes in Argentine BBQ, and because that apparently wasn't enough food, we ended up in Trevelin's artisanal market where they had homemade cakes! We couldn't resist getting a slice of the walnut cake with dulce de leche. It was amazing! The day really turned into a bit of a foodie tour.
That was our day trip to Trevelin from Esquel. Super easy and worth the journey. We hope you guys enjoyed watching along and we’ll see you soon with more videos from Patagonia!

🌄 Introduction to Trevelin
Welcome to another day trip in Patagonia! In this episode, we visit Trevelin, a charming town whose name means “Mill Town.” Famous for its rich Welsh heritage, iconic dragons, and delicious afternoon tea, Trevelin invites visitors to discover its unique blend of Argentine and Welsh culture. Whether you’re a foodie, history buff, or just love scenic walks, this travel vlog is packed with inspiration for your Patagonia adventure.
🫖 Welsh Tea Time in Patagonia
No visit to Trevelin would be complete without experiencing traditional Welsh tea.
First Stop: Casa de Té Nain Maggie
Sampled a Welsh tea set with homemade white and whole wheat bread (baked using flour from the local mill), two types of jam, cheese, and a mouthwatering selection of five cakes (including chocolate sponge cake with coffee icing, apple pie, Welsh cake with brown sugar and rum, and the ever-popular cream pie).
Enjoyed loose-leaf tea “the Welsh way” — with cold milk and sugar.
The setting was warm and inviting, with heavenly music playing and plenty of time to linger over every bite.
Pro Tip: One tea set is plenty for two people!
Cost: Just under $13 USD for two, and the quality of the cakes here was a highlight.
🚶 Exploring Trevelin: Town Walks, Gardens, and Museums
Walk along the Percy River: Strolled the scenic riverside to help work off those cakes.
Welsh Chapel: Passed by a small brick chapel, though Sunday service meant we couldn’t peek inside.
Main Street: Explored Avenida San Martín, noticing the abundance of rose gardens, friendly locals, and a particularly social cat who demanded cuddles.
Monument to the Mimosa: Visited a monument honoring the first Welsh settlers’ ship to Patagonia.
🏛️ Regional Museum & Local Heritage
Museo Regional Trevelin (Mill of the Andes):
Admission: Only $2 USD — great value!
The museum featured a fascinating collection of objects from Welsh-Patagonian daily life: farming equipment, home furnishings, musical instruments, clothing, and tools.
Multi-level exhibits covered both agricultural history and Welsh culture.
Historic Houses & Malacara:
Stopped by the reconstructed home of John Daniel Evans, founder of the mill and Trevelin itself.
Paid respects at the tomb of Malacara, Evans’s famous horse.
Note: Guided tours available for a nominal fee, though hours vary.
🥩 Argentine Barbecue at Los Troncos
After walking off our Welsh breakfast, we were ready for an Argentine lunch!
Parrilla Experience:
Shared a parrilla platter featuring favorite cuts of beef and sides like salad and fries (with plenty of raw garlic for punch).
Washed down with excellent local red wine and soda water.
The meal was just $22 USD for two, including a bottle of wine—a fantastic deal.
Tip: Avoid over-ordering meat if you want room for dessert!
