From The German Album LOS MAGICOS PARAGUAYOS LIVE (1980)
The Original LOS MAGICOS PARAGUAYOS produced for itonmusik
by Winfried Fischer
Live-Recording at the BMW cultural program in Dingolfing (1979)

In 1523, the Spaniards conquered Paraguay. Four years later, Sebastian Gaboto set foot in Paraguay to colonize it on orders from the crown and the Church. Far away from home, the Conquistadores wanted at least not to be deprived of entertainment by their own home music – therefore Gaboto was accompanied by a harpener named Martin Nino. When he was playing for the new sovereign at night, the Indios, too, were listening to those strange sounds from far away. O Nino’s instrument found its way into their own native music – even in our times, the Paraguayan arms show a harp. More than four hundred years later, the harp is still a very important instrument of South American music, which has not at all lost its originality over the centuries, but in the meantime, it has gained a firm position in the world of music.

The songs coming from the heart of South America tell of heroes, nostalgia and hope. One of the first orchestras who made this music famous all over the world, were Los Paraguayos, who could be called the pioneers for all South American orchestras of our time. To name only some of their references, we rfer to the facts that they have enregistered more than a hundred long play records, some of which were golden, they got awarded “golden globe” for more than a million travelling kilometers and labels like that for “the most successful folkloristic group of the world”, the leader of Los Paraguayos, Luis Alberto, was honoured with the highest Paraguayan decoration an they have given plenty of most successful concerts all around the world. “La Bamba”, “Guantanamera”, or “Ave Maria no morro” are only three examples of their music, which also exercised some influence on pop-music.
Luis Alberto died on Sept. 15th, 1974. Fausto, Dioniso and Tony together with Martin and Angel founded the new group LOS MAGICOS PARAGUAYOS.
