No music video in the collective catalogues of Jay Z and Ye conveys the brotherly love of these two massive personalities better than the luxury car-carving, fireworks sparking, raw rap Run DMC-back-and-forth rocking clip for “Otis.” I mean, Jay-Z makes the “la familia” connection clear with lines like:
“Live from the Mercer/Run up on Yeezy the wrong way I might murk ya.”
Along with “Otis,” “N**gas in Paris,” and “No Church in the World,” and its Platinum certification in the United States, Watch the Throne satisfied those longing for these Roc-A-Fella giants to crush the game…but soon begged the question of…when is part two going to pop off? On May 25th 2012, it seemed that audiences had gotten their answer when producer and Kanye West’s frequent collaborator Mike Dean got quite a few Kanye West and Jay-Z fans excited during an interview with Quiet Lunch when he shared:
“I’m working on the G.O.O.D. Music album, of course…And Watch The Throne 2 — it’s not started yet, but it’s coming.”
But even with this low-key Mike Dean announcement, the exaggerated wait for Watch the Throne 2 was only just beginning. Unfortunately, the longer the gap of time between the original Watch the Throne and its anticipated sequel persisted, the more distant the once bright bond of master craftsman Jay-Z and his protégé-turned-king in his own right Kanye West began to become.
