Video transrcipt:
Janine Rainforth always loved singing, making music and performing
Following through on her vision making and performing her music live became a reality
Janine formed Maximum Joy in 1979 with other players it was a working band they toured extensively and recorded 4 singles in total at that time and 1 album in 1982
This is a track from the last single that Janine recorded with the band then
Janine had suffered a serious near fatal violent sexual attack by someone within her close professional circle
And was given no choice but to leave her band
She tried to carry on in her chosen career
It was the only thing she knew and wanted to do
This single Aces High is a single she recorded with a band she formed next with other players Leonard and the Cats
But she found she could no longer perform she froze even in the studio, at the time she had no idea why
Unable to carry on with her music career eventually she had no choice but to retreat from the music industry
In 2014 with the help and grace of many wonderful people, serndipiteis and benign force Janine managed to come back to performing and making her music in public again. For her this feels miraculous
It was something she never ever thought could happen again
“It’s difficult to over estimate the impact this first post punk generation, with it’s pioneering lack of respect for boundaries across genre and culture, has had
As Rainforth forges a new future it’s important not to divorce it from her fearless and catalytic past”
Crack Magazine
In 2015 Janine reformed MJ for some gigs including Simple Things Bristol
They released their first MJ album in over 30 years and follow up EP Joy Again
They continue to gig and make music
