On this day in rock, March 6th, 1970, David Bowie Released the song "The Prettiest Star" as a follow up single to Space Oddity. Bowie wrote the song for his then girlfriend Angie Barnett as a way to propose to her. He played the song for her over the phone Christmas of 1969. Unfortunately the song reportedly only sold 800 copies and didn't even appear on the charts. The song was then re-recorded with a slightly faster tempo, more instruments and backup vocals and released in 1973 on the Alladin Sane album. Marc Bolan of T. Rex played guitar on the original track. The song was also covered by a couple artists but the song never charted and remains a Bowie deep track.
