what we define as life is different for everyone, something of our own agency. only the individual can perceive their own experiences with their own objective and subjective emotions. YODO's first album, Memories, is a culmination of life. this album is Tokuhiro Kuroyanagi's magnum opus that was in the works for 17 years. the group was formed in 1998 and recorded this album from 2011-13 in sparse sessions, recorded entirely with vintage equipment. when the album was finally released, Kuroyanagi dropped his favorite amplifier on his toe and had to get emergency surgery on the day he was supposed to perform a concert commemorating this record. he miraculously made it just in time for the gig, and this moment lives on in the few people in their town of Nagoya in the Aichi prefecture of Japan, where they left their mark in the wonderful sprawling ethos of humanity's existence.
this is probably the best record i've ever heard, and there is no album more deserving of being listened to than this one. life is beautiful.
