Come join us for tantalizing Argentine Food as we sample Patagonian Lamb and Mushroom risotto in Puerto Madryn, Argentina at restaurant Parador Yoaquina. Located just a few blocks away from our rental apartment, we immediately enjoyed the laid back vibe, friendly dogs and close proximity to the beach. For lunch we enjoyed Malbec red wine from Estancia Mendoza. The Patagonian lamb was one of our favorite Argentine meals of our entire trip and the mushroom risotto a close second. We'd highly recommend this restaurant for both dishes. Afterwards, we walked along the coast of Puerto Madryn to the cultural centre Fundación Ecocentro.

🌅 Final Day in Puerto Madryn: Patagonian Lamb, Coastal Walks & Ecocentro Adventures 🐑🌊

🏡 Morning Reflections & Plans

The video opens with the hosts reflecting on their last day in Puerto Madryn, feeling a bit sad to leave after only two full days but excited to explore more before departure.

They comment on how much they've enjoyed their neighborhood—staying in a more local, residential area—and set the day’s agenda: a meal featuring Patagonian lamb, followed by a visit to the renowned Ecocentro, one of the city’s top attractions.

🍷 Patagonian Food Experience: Lunch at Parador Yoaquina

Lunch is at Parador Yoaquina, conveniently located just a few blocks from their apartment.

Wine Selection: They opt for a bottle of Malbec (Estancia Mendoza) and comment on the variety of local bodegas available in Argentina.

Starters: The classic bread basket arrives with butter and dipping sauces, a staple in Argentinian dining.

Main Courses:

Patagonian Lamb: Sam orders the lamb, which arrives beautifully presented on a skewer with bacon, crispy baked potatoes, plum sauce, and a rich gravy. The lamb is described as the best he’s ever tasted—tender, slightly fatty, with a crispy skin and plenty of flavor from the bacon and sauce.

Patagonian Risotto: Audrey goes for a creamy risotto loaded with shrimp and wild mushrooms, delighting in the cheesy, comforting flavors and generous seafood.

Pet Cameos: Local dogs make a brief appearance, hoping for treats, adding charm to the beachfront meal.

Meal Review: Both rave about the food quality, large portions, artistic presentation, and value—29 USD for wine, bread, and two mains.

🚶‍♂️ Beach Walk: Savoring the Seaside

After lunch, the hosts take a long stroll along the wide beach to walk off their meal and enjoy the fresh coastal breeze.

Fun Moment: Sam shows off his “farmer’s tan” from a month of Argentine sun, joking about the distinctive sandal tan lines.

The water is ice-cold, but wading in is a must when visiting a seaside city like Puerto Madryn.

🌿 Fundación Ecocentro: Coastal Museum & History

Getting There: The Ecocentro opens only in the evening (5–9 p.m., closed Tuesdays), so the hosts planned accordingly and walked the boardwalk out of town to reach it. The location feels remote, windswept, and dramatic.

Welsh Settler Caves: Before reaching the museum, they discover a boardwalk leading to the historic caves where the first Welsh settlers arrived in 1865 and took shelter—an unexpected bonus for history lovers.

Café Pitstop: Upon arriving at the Ecocentro, hunger strikes again! The museum café offers a mix of Welsh-inspired treats: a grilled ham & cheese sandwich (tostada), a scone, and a slice of quince tart (membrillo)—the perfect post-walk snack.

🦭 Museum Highlights: Nature, Sea, & Stunning Views

Exhibits: The Ecocentro features captivating, varied displays in each room—ranging from marine life to Patagonian ecosystems—making it a must-see in Puerto Madryn.

Lookout Tower: They end the visit at the top of a lookout point resembling a lighthouse, sitting and soaking up panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Reflection: The hosts agree the museum is a hidden gem, a bit outside the city center but absolutely worth the walk for its peaceful vibe, fascinating exhibits, and beautiful coastal setting.

💡 Travel Tips & Takeaways
