Flying past the south pole (Antarctica) onboard a Qantas Boeing 747-400
Here is footage from onboard QF63 (Sydney to Johannesburg) where the flight route takes you past Antarctica. Surprisingly, unless you have a globe next to you, the shortest route between these two places is to fly directly down from Sydney over Tasmania and then underneath the world before flying back up to South Africa. If the wings are right, you can get some awesome views of Antarctica itself. It’s just a pity I recorded this in 2014 before I learned how to keep the camera still (sorry!!)
