Upstate businesswoman Pamela Evette became lieutenant governor in 2018, when Gov. Henry McMaster picked her out of relative obscurity to be his running mate, a first for a governor following a law change. Since then, Evette has come into her own, advocating for environmental issues, aligning herself strongly with McMaster’s conservative priorities that have passed the legislature and also those of President Donald Trump.
