The Forum: Conversations at YBCA is a new quarterly series of moderated conversations with artists, activists, and thought-leaders. The series exemplifies YBCA's ongoing commitment to serving as a communal meeting place for the discussion and dissemination of contemporary ideas.
For our third program, YBCA is pleased to welcome Judith Jamison, the world-renowned dancer, choreographer, and former artistic director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Jamison made her New York debut with American Ballet Theatre in 1964 and became a member of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1965. She danced with the Company for 15 years to great acclaim, and Mr. Ailey recognized her extraordinary talent by creating some of his most enduring roles for her, most notably the tour-de-force solo, "Cry." Ailey personally chose her to succeed him as artistic director of the company, which she did in 1989. She has earned numerous honors for her artistic talent and dedication to the arts, including an Emmy and a Kennedy Center Honor. Jamison was joined on stage by award-winning, nationally known journalist Farai Chideya, whose reporting has been featured in Newsweek, The New York Times, and on National Public Radio.
