Even bigger than the German Gotha this famous four engine Bomber was the largest plane in the world till 1917. Giant Aircraft like this were manned by several crew members like Pilots, Navigators and Gunners. With the beginning of World War I Sikorsky was encouraged by the proving flights redesigning the luxurious civilian aircraft to become the Military Ilia Mouromets Type V the world's first purpose designed heavier than air bomber.
