These methane turbines were set up quickly, but not all of them had the proper permissions at first. The company had planned to install 15 turbines, but ended up bringing in more—up to 35. This caused concern in the local community, especially since the area already struggles with pollution and health problems like asthma and high cancer rates.
People living nearby, along with environmental groups, protested the project. They were worried that the extra pollution could harm the health of families in the area. In response, local officials gave the company a permit to run up to 15 of the turbines legally until 2027.
Even with the permit, many people are still unhappy. They believe a cleaner energy source, like solar power, should have been used instead. The situation has started a wider conversation about how high-tech projects can affect local communities, especially those already facing environmental challenges.
