In late 1990 house music shifted a gear. The happy Italian piano sound started to make way for harder, faster, hip-hop break beat driven tunes, many sampling dancehall/reggae baselines. Classics from guys like 2 Bad Mice, Kaotic Chemistry, Sonz Of A Loop Da Loop Era.Back in the day, we used to call much of this kind of stuff 'Jungle', if that was wrong then, it was certainly it's precurser. Apparently it's now called 'Breakbeat Hardcore'.
