On February 18th, 2001, Robert Hanssen was arrested on charges of espionage. Hanssen, a 25-year FBI veteran, had spent 22 of those years acting as a double agent and spying for the KGB, selling America's most protected secrets to the Soviet Union and Russia.

For 22 years, Hanssen flew directly under the nose of what was supposed to be the top investigative bureau in the world, the FBI. Instead, the FBI repeatedly failed to recognize his actions, despite numerous instances of suspicious behavior. He was caught photocopying classified documents more than once, caught hacking into computer systems to retrieve informant lists, and his history of selling information to the Soviets was even reported directly to an FBI supervisor in Chicago. But nothing happened.

Finally in 2000, the FBI would catch their break in the form of a former KGB agent turned FBI informant. They would make him the highest paid FBI informant in history, but the information he provided would lead the FBI straight to Hanssen.

This is the story of Robert Hanssen, the man the FBI, to this day, refers to as "possibly the worst intelligence disaster in US history."
