Join us to watch LIVE the 2024 World Press Freedom Day Conference. Hosted in Chile, this year's Conference is dedicated to the importance of journalism and freedom of expression in the context of the current global environmental crisis.
Here you will watch the Opening ceremony with UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, President of the Republic of Chile, Gabriel Boric, Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile and former Executive Director of UN Women, and Mexican actor and activist Gael García Bernal, among others.
The opening will be followed by a first plenary session (10.15am - 11.20am GMT-4) under the theme "No Future without Freedom of Expression and access to information", with the participation of Maria Ressa, co-founder and CEO of Rappler, Philippines, Fredrick Mugira, Founder Water Journalist Africa, Uganda, Minna-Liina Lind, Deputy Foreign Minister for Global Affairs and Co-chair of the Media Freedom Coalition, Estonia and Gael García Bernal, Actor, producer and environmental activist, moderated by Paloma Ávila Barrera, Director of CNN Futuro, Chile
At 1.30pm - 2.45pm will take place the Plenary Session II: "The threats to our future", with the participation of Andrea Ixchiu, K'iche journalist and environmental activist, Guatemala, Alyaa Abo, Investigative journalist and trainer, Egypt, Jennifer Robinson, Doughty Street Chambers, human rights and freedom of expression lawyer, Australia, Ricardo Pael Ardenghi, Prosecutor, Procuradoria da Republica Em Mato Grosso, Brazil, Suntariya Muanpawong, Chief Judge in the Research Justice Division of the Supreme Court of Thailand, Thailand.
Finally, Plenary Session III : "Facing a future for all" will take place at 5pm-6.10pm, with the participation of Irene Khan, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, Emma Theofelus, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Namibia, Giovanni Salvi, Former Attorney General of the Italian Court of Cassation, Italy, Maksuda Aziz, Journalist at Mongabay, Association of Bangladeshi Journalists, Bangladesh, Antonio Díaz Aranda, Youth Ambassador for Climate and will be moderated by Mr. Giles Trendle, Co-Chair the steering committee of Covering Climate Now, UK.
