AMP chief executive, Alexis George, says recovering from reputational damage from the revelations in the Banking Royal Commission has been a long road but the company has learned from its mistakes. Ms George says AMP now feels it finally has the trust of its customers and it's seeing growth in its wealth business. She says AI is already being used in the business to assist financial advisers and will be part of the future because it can deliver efficiencies and better customer service. But, she says, it's important to be realistic and recognise that when it comes to big financial decisions, customers want confirmation from a human being. When it comes to regulation, Ms George says, AMP accepts it will need to be accountable for how it's using the technology. She says accountability is an integral part of regulating AI, in other words, making sure that someone is always responsible, and that can be done in the legislation that already exists. She says transparency about the use of AI is also vitally important.
