Dried fruits are essentially fruits from which a significant portion of the original water content has been naturally removed, either through the traditional method of sun drying or by utilizing specialized dehydrators and food industry machines.
This practice, which dates back to the 4th millennium BC in Mesopotamia, is revered for imparting a delightful sweetness, concentrated nutritional value, and extended shelf life to the fruits.
In contemporary times, dried fruit enjoys widespread popularity. Almost half of all dried fruit sales consist of raisins, followed by dates, prunes, figs, apricots, peaches, apples, and pears.
These are typically referred to as 'conventional' or 'traditional' dried fruits, which are either sun-dried or processed in hot air tunnels using advanced food industry machines.
Furthermore, a variety of fruits such as cranberries, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, and mangoes are often pre-soaked in a sweetening solution prior to drying, a process facilitated by food industry machines.
Additionally, certain products marketed as dried fruits, such as papaya, kiwi, and pineapple, are often candied fruits, which have been sweetened and processed through food industry machines to enhance their flavors and preserve their shelf lives.
