A brief clip of one of my all time favorite songs, “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground”. I had a very last minute (like I got there 20min before show time) gig with the amazing @gary_west_music. Gary is one of the best and most decorated musicians I have ever worked with. Playing with him is the best kind of challenge and it’s hard to not get caught up in the moment listening to him perform. The man is an entertainer’s entertainer. Being real with everyone, I love playing country music and channeling my inner @mickeyraphael or @leeoskarharmonicas as much as John Popper @bluestraveler. I joke all the time about wanting to be the Mickey to someone’s Willie or Chris Stapleton, but it’s true. I am a better musical wing man than lead.
Social media is always heavily curated story telling, and as fun as it is to shred away in the harmonica, playing beautiful music is my favorite, albeit, not the kind of thing the algorithm likes to push.
Now the nerdy stuff. I use a chorus pedal for country gigs to sound like an Echo harp while playing a regular diatonic. Playing rhythm is just as much fun for me as soloing, which is hard to do when I have to sing.
