Israel is expanding its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the country’s defence minister said, confirming a plan to seize “large areas” of the besieged enclave.Defense Minister Israel Katz said Israel’s offensive in the territory was “expanding to crush and clean the area of militants,” and that “large areas would be added to security zones of the state of Israel.”
Officials at hospitals inside the enclave said Isreali strikes overnight and into Wednesday killed more than 40 people — nearly a dozen of them children.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that Israel would create a new security corridor running between Rafah and Khan Younis.
