🔥 Essex pirate radio pressure straight from Charge FM, 2006! This one features Scott Sparx dropping a heavyweight jungle drum & bass set packed with underground rollers, darkside vibes, and that authentic pirate station energy. A proper time capsule of mid-2000s UK DnB when FM airwaves were still alive with the rave sound.

🎧 What to expect: upfront drum & bass, jungle-influenced breaks, deep rollers, and heavy basslines – all delivered with the raw vibe of true pirate radio.

👊 Who it’s for: junglists, drum & bass ravers, pirate radio historians, DJs, oldskool heads, and anyone who lived the Essex FM scene.

⚠️ Why it matters: Charge FM was a key underground station in Essex, pushing jungle, hardcore, and drum & bass well into the 2000s. Sets like this from Scott Sparx kept the pirate scene alive, bringing the community together across locked-in radios, block parties, and dancefloors.

📡 Station blurb: From the mid-90s through the 2000s, Charge FM carried the torch of UK rave culture in Essex, with DJs like Scott Sparx delivering relentless energy. More Charge FM sets are up on the channel – check the playlist and keep the history alive.

Charge FM Playlist:

Glenn Christon, 23, set up Charge 908 FM using power from the Gala Bingo Hall in Southernhay, Basildon, and broadcast across south Essex, Kent and East London.
It was only when police spotted him climbing on to the roof of an office block near the bingo hall that he was arrested, Basildon magistrates heard.

Christon, of Beambridge, Pitsea, admitted two counts of setting up an unauthorised broadcast station.
He also admitted a further charge of abstracting electricity under the Theft Act.

All the tools and equipment seized were ordered to be forfeited, including a pair of industrial bolt croppers worth £500.
As well as being ordered to undertake 200 hours community service Christon was also ordered to pay costs of £1,089 and compensation to Basildon Council of £608.

A Basildon pirate radio DJ today denied he was to blame for ruining the fledgling Eastgate FM's broadcasts.
DJ Recall, said the town's two illegal stations were not causing problems.

Eastgate FM bosses have claimed their transmissions across Basildon are being interrupted because local pirates insist on using their 87.9FM frequency.
But Recall, who represents Charge FM and Class FM, said: "We are not interfering with their frequency.

"The problems are being caused by Shine FM, based in London, which does use the same frequency as Eastgate FM and has a high power transmitter.
"They were closed down but have come back up again and they're wiping out Eastgate FM.
"We're on a completely different frequency and I think it's a bit silly to try to share."
Boss Steven King suggested setting up a single frequency for all pirates in the area and making them pay to use it for two hours a day.

But Recall said the idea would never work.
He said: "People would get confused about who was on and it would take away the whole point of being a pirate station.
"Besides, we play illegal underground samples from other songs so we would never get a licence.
