Dive Into the Archive:
What is the difference between experiencing racist acts versus contending with entire systems of compounded racial violence designed to cripple Black people on every front of daily life? As Prof. Tricia Rose explains, metaracism is the outcome of systems that produce effects that are greater than the sum of their parts. There's a difference between an inert structure, like a box of sand that simply has layers one on top of another, and an adapting machine whose components work together to produce certain results. An award-winning author and the Chancellor’s Professor of Africana Studies at Brown University, Dr. Tricia Rose joins longtime colleague and host Prof. Mark Anthony Neal for a special conversation on her latest book, "Metaracism: How Systemic Racism Devastates Black Lives―and How We Break Free," published by Basic Books in March 2024.

Dr. Rose also serves as the Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America and is Associate Dean of the Faculty for Special Initiatives at @brownuniversity. Learn more about her here:
