I also have a full class on playing shakers:
I often tend to equate creating music to cooking. Placing percussion effects to a musical arrangement can be like adding the spices to a dish. Depending on the texture or sound of the instrument played, various rhythms, dynamics, etc. it can set an entire mood. Sometimes, however, adding percussion effects (Or as I like to call it, "ambient percussion" such as chimes, rattlers, shakers and more) can be intimidating. In this thirty three minute course I have added six categories full of practical ideas that I have gleaned over the last thirty years of making music. These categories are separated like chapters within the course:
Personality & Cultural Associations
Speech Patterns (borrowing from speech patterns to create rhythmic effects)
Aesthetic themes
Dynamics
Syncopation
Soundscapes
Let's cook with percussion effects!
