Police on Thursday stopped the marchers of Islami Andolan Bangladesh at the Shantinagar crossing at noon as they attempted to march towards the Indian High Commission in Dhaka protesting at the derogatory remarks made by the former Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson on Prophet Muhammad (SM) recently.
IAB began their march from Baitul Mokarram National Mosque’s north gate for the Indian High Commission in the city.
IAB amir Syed Mohammad Rezaul Karim led the march and a huge number of police stopped it at Shantinagar crossing.
Later a five-member delegation comprised of the central leaders of the party went to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and handed over a memorandum to the embassy officials.
The memorandum demanded punishment for the persons who made insulting comment about Prophet Muhammad (SM).
Prior to the march, leaders and activists of the party held a rally in front of the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque where Rezaul Karim demanded that the government hold formal protest against the BJP and take a motion in the parliament condemning the remark.
