This old man was found shivering while selling vegetables in the freezing rain. A nearby meat vendor and her worker saw the old man and felt bad. So the meat vendor rushed over to ask the old man if he was hungry, if he needed help.
The lady came back later with a fresh bowl of noodles she bought for the old man. The old man tried to give the lady $5 in exchange but the lady refused saying, she bought it for him. She checked on the old man's dirty clothes and asked the elderly man about it to which the old man replied that he got up early in the morning around 5 to go to the field and pick vegetables to sell. That's when he fell. The old man is already in his 80s. It's tough for him to grow vegetables and stand in the rain or sun for hours a day to barely make a living.
The lady told the old man to wait. While she was gone, the old man gulped the noodles down hungrily. She returned minutes later with a new jacket. She helped the old man put on a warmer jacket and then gave him a bag of pork from her own shop. The old man told her that the noodles and the jacket are enough. No need for more. But the lady refused saying, it's alright.
The old man, grateful, gave the lady some of his vegetables. He said that it's freshly picked and no one has bought it yet. The lady took a look at the vegetables and decided to buy everything from him.
This story reminds us to be kinder towards one another especially the vulnerable population, the elderly. They have worked hard to contribute to the society their whole lives. It's a shame that many of them can't retire and enjoy their golden years.
