
This goes back all the way to the 1920s, when the Michelin brothers started giving out "stars" to restaurants throughout France to encourage people to drive (on their Michelin tires, of course) to try them for themselves.
A hundred years later, Michelin stars are still awarded to restaurants worldwide. Yeah, they're still relevant, but they're not as important.
Now, it's the people who go to these restaurants and review them on their social media that can make a business blow up.
