Was CS really better before? (CSS, 1.6 and older)

Being nostalgic about 1.6 is something most of us (who played it) are. I loved 1.6 and CSS back in the day but they really haven't aged well for me since I haven't played them at all for the last couple of years. I agree they're fun to play but I wouldn't prefer them over CS:GO. :)
