Getting all three parts of a finger picking tune down takes a ton of effort, but great players make it look effortless.

They make each part (bass, rhythm and melody) seem as if their fingers are on auto-pilot.

In this lesson, I will share with you an exercise that helped me get my thumb to pick as if it has a mind of its own.

The way to achieve this is through repetition and through exercises designed to separate your thumbs movement from the rest of your picking fingers.

Give the video a look and then head over to the lesson page to check out the TAB.

Fire up a metronome and grab your trusty acoustic and be sure to play in time with the beat. That's probably the most important tip for this lesson: You want to come away with a great sense of rhythm in your thumb that you can call on in any situation without thinking about it.

The way to get there is to practice this thing until you hate it!

Best of luck to you!

John
