Both the 622GW & iQ are top of the range Nextbase dash cams & are the best smart dash cams for a car or van in 2025, but both offer very different approaches to how they record your journeys, so there’s lots to decide on when it comes to choosing the best dash cam 2025.

For dash cam features, the nextbase 622 has a 140 degree lens with an aperture of f1.3 & the useful addition of a polarising filter in front of it to reduce windscreen glare. It films at a maximum of 4k at 30fps & also 1080 at 60fps. It’s also got a super slowmo settings for 1080 at 120fps, plus dash cam image stabilisation.

The iQ has 2 lenses built in. One faces the road & has a 140 degree filming angle, whilst the other faces the cabin & has a 180 degree field of view & also benefits from infra-red sensors for night driving. You can get a wired rear camera for the iQ which enjoys 2k resolution & a 140 degree field of view.

There are 3 models of the iQ - a 4k, 2k & 1k resolution versions. I have the 2k here an&d both the front & cabin-facing cameras will record in 2k.

But that’s not to say that the 622 is only limited to one lens. On the side is a port to attach either a plug-in 140 degree cabin view camera, a plug-in 30 degree telephoto lens to film out of the back window, or a wired rear-facing 140 degrees lens to stick to the rear window, which is magnetic & highly-adjustable. All 3 of these additional lenses film at 1080 resolution when used with the 622, though that resolution drops if used with some of the lower models with which they’re also compatible.

For dash cam technology, the next base 622GW has GPS, what3words & Alexa voice control, as well as automatic protection of clips detected by the G sensor at impact.

There’s also a built-in battery which powers an intelligent parking mode, enhanced night vision & an extreme weather mode. The dash cam connects to the MyNextbase app.

The next base iq technology sees GPS, Emergency SOS, What3Words & voice control functionality, as well as Smart Sense Parking, Witness Mode & Remote Alarm.

Thanks to being a 4G dashcam, the nextbase iQ can provide live-view of all 3 lenses & has cloud back-up. For this you’ll need the Nextbase iQ app.

Guardian mode has just been released, with Roadwatch AI to be released soon.

Nextbase 622gw dash cam battery issue: its built-in battery it is only rated for use between -20°c & 45°c, or -4°f to 113°f.

There has been no mention of a next base 722gw dash cam, so I suspect there will be a next base iq mark ii at some point.

So are dash cams by next base value for money? They might be on the more expensive side but they offer top dash cam technology for every car.
