This episode marks another meaningful step in our journey to bring life back into the land around our cottage.Firstly, our microphones failed to record, so the sound is nothing like you are used to.
We take delivery of a beautiful selection of trees, each one chosen with care to shape the future of the garden. The highlight is a young oak — a tree that will, in time, grow to become a towering presence in the landscape and, we hope, outlast us all.
But getting it into the ground wasn’t exactly easy. What looked like soft, workable soil turned out to be nothing but rock beneath the surface — the kind of digging that tests your patience (and your back). Still, with a bit of grit, a few blisters, and a lot of determination, we got it planted.
While working in the barn, Scott makes an unexpected discovery: an old window hidden behind an ancient shutter, sealed away and forgotten for who knows how long. It’s one of those little moments that reminds us this place has so many stories yet to tell — some of them hidden in plain sight.
Meanwhile, we’re shifting gears toward the next big project: building our own sheep shed. Scott places the order for all the materials and tools — timber, fixings, roofing, the lot.
