A KP index of 8 + G4 geomagnetic storm was predicted across the Northern Hemisphere for 10/10/2024.
Being in New York City, I didn’t think much of it since it’s too light polluted as far as the eye can see.
At 7:30pm, I started getting texts and seeing social media posts that the Aurora Borealis was indeed visible!
With a moments notice, I dropped everything I was doing and haphazardly threw my camera gear into my bag and dashed out of of the house.
Of course, by the time I got to my go-to shooting spot, the activity had died down.
However, there was hope that activity would pick up again. After two hours of waiting in the windy cold, I packed up my gear ready to head home only to see vibrant pink clouds appearing in the sky.
Knowing that if the naked eye can see the Northern Lights, that means the storm was STRONG!
I unpacked everything once again, and crossed off a bucket list item I never even knew I had…
