
Guinea pigs really thrive when they’re kept in pairs or small groups. In the wild, they live in herds for safety and companionship, and that instinct hasn’t gone anywhere. A solo guinea pig can get lonely, stressed, and even depressed—while a bonded pair will chatter, groom each other, and generally live much happier lives. Basically, they’re little gossipers who hate eating lunch alone.
