We had some spectacular wind yesterday, and in the afternoon the sun was angled just right through the trees to create beautiful animated shadows in my studio. So I decided to try and manifest some of this feeling musically:
When I’m creating something like this, I often start with a setup or recording technique that I want to explore. Trying a new signal path or combination of sounds can be a great jumping off point for writing!
In this case, I was inspired to try the Chasebliss MOOD pedal with an acoustic instrument. The MOOD is a powerful and quirky micro-looper and multi-effect pedal, and it’s been a go to tool for me for creating interesting and compelling ambience.
For the rest of the signal chain I used a Shure SM7, an Eventide Mixing Link (as a mic preamp and interface for the pedals), and a Benson Preamp pedal (for some dirty coloration and EQ).
The other element in this track is a Korg Monologue synth that was processed through the Soundtoys Crystalizer plug-in and the Neunaber WET Reverberator.
