EPISODE 107: From about 1963 to 1967 a great deal of change was happening among American and British youth. A movement of highly creative individuals particularly in the Haight - Ashbury District of San Francisco were looking for a new way of life - they were known as the Hippies. Media around the world began covering this in early 1967 painting a strong negative and often incorrect version of the movement. The incorrect description drew in large numbers of youth. Those who had been involved in this before 1967 became disappointed with the outcome and would flee from The Haight-Ashbury District and find refuge in secluded communes throughout rural Northern California and some other places. A substantial portion of the Hippy belief would live on, especially in the songs of Rock & Roll. This episode is about the songs of early 1967. These songs strongly contributed to the formation of the Summer of Love in 1967 in which large numbers of American youth made their way to The Haight-Ashbury District.
