I had a problem with fuses blowing when using the wipers. Quite often I'd get a little puff of smoke from the steering console as it blew the fuse. This video shows you how to dissemble and reassemble the indicator stalk and the wiper stalk. Most Volkswagen's would be very similar to this from that period and also lots of Audi's. Tools required are flat head & phillips screwdriver and a socket to remove the nut from the steering wheel. This video covers steering wheel replacement, indicator(turn signal) stalk replacement and also the wiper stalk replacement
